John Roper – Pastor
John was born in Hoke County, North Carolina, the son of Presbyterian parents and grandparents. He grew up there working on the family farm. John is a graduate of St. Andrews Presbyterian College, received his Master of Divinity from Columbia Seminary in Atlanta and Doctorate of Ministry from McCormick Seminary in Chicago. He has continued his education by studying with several prominent theologians.
John’s sermons are unique. He applies basic scriptural and moral truths to our everyday life experiences in a message flavored with delightful humor. John’s wife, Janie, is a graduate of the University of Texas and has a Master’s Degree in Learning Disabilities. She retired from teaching in 2013.
The Ropers have a son, Jeff, and daughter, Suzanne. Jeff and his wife Leslie and their two children live in Batesville, Arkansas where Jeff works in the financial aid office at Lyon College and Leslie is the associate pastor at First Presbyterian Church. Suzanne and her husband Tim live in Dallas, TX where she is a pediatrician and he is in medical sales. Tim & Suzanne have two sons, Austin and Connor.
Bill Williamson – Parish Associate
Bill is a graduate of Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia, Union Theological Seminary in Virginia, and Columbia Theological Seminary in Georgia. He was the Associate Pastor at Westover Hills Presbyterian Church, Little Rock, AR; Pastor at Senatobia (Mississippi) Presbyterian Church; Pastor at First Presbyterian Church, Helena, AR.; and Pastor at First Presbyterian Church, Columbia, TN. Bill is married to Nancy and they have two daughters and four grandchildren. His daughter, Sara Sutphin, and her two children, Jonathan and Paul, are members of Harvey Browne. Sara’s husband, Mike, attends faithfully. At Harvey Browne, Bill’s primary focus is on pastoral care including visiting our sick and shut-in members.
Paul Huh – Parish Associate
We are pleased to welcome the Rev. Paul Huh joined the staff of HBPres as a volunteer parish associate in 2017. He assists in worship and serves as a liaison to the Korean Presbyterian Church. Paul works for the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) as an Associate for Translation/Korean with the Presbyterian Mission Agency. He has degrees in music from Wheaton College, Biola University and Brooklyn Conservatory plus a Master of Divinity degree from Princeton Theological Seminary and a PhD. in liturgical studies from Drew University. Before moving to Louisville, he was an Assistant Professor of Worship and Director of Korean American Ministries at Columbia Theological Seminary. He has taught at a number of other seminaries in the United States and Korea and pastored congregations in New Jersey. Paul and his wife, Clare Kyunghee Huh, have three children.
Terry Hargrave – Director of Children & Youth Ministry
Terry Hargrave grew up in South Carolina where she graduated from Clemson University with a Bachelor of Arts in sociology. After graduation, she moved to Louisville, KY to attend The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary where she obtained a Master Degree of Arts in Christian Education. Upon graduation, Terry began her career in Christian Education in a PCUSA church. She served two churches as Director of Christian Education and Youth Ministries before God called her to Harvey Browne to become the Director of Children and Youth Ministries. Terry has been working in the field of Christian Education for 22 years. In her free time, Terry enjoys spending time with her two children, Stephanie and Michael, as well as spending time in nature. Her favorite place is Montreat, NC.
Larry Brandenburg – Minister of Music
Larry Brandenburg has been Minister of Music at HBPres since August, 1997. He is a native of Lexington, KY and a die-hard UK fan. Larry and his wife, Beth, live in Shelbyville, KY on Harmony Fields Farm. They have two sons, Matthew & Nathan. Larry has a Bachelor of Music degree from Campbellsville University, Master of Music from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and has completed all course work for the DMA in conducting from the University of Illinois. Prior to coming to HBPres Larry served as Minister of Music in churches in Kentucky, Texas and Illinois and was a professor at Midwestern State University, West Texas State University and Georgetown College.
Julie Rousseau – Parents’ Day Out and Nursery Director
Julie is a lifetime member of HBPres. She became a member of the staff in August, 2000 as the Director of Parents’ Day Out. She has 24 years experience in early childhood development. Julie owned and operated St Matthews Preschool for 8 years prior to coming to HBPres. She holds a Bachelors of Science in Elementary Education from Georgetown College. In 2009, Julie became the director of the Nursery and coordinates all child care needs for the HBPres members. Julie is married with one adult son, Paxton, and a teenage daughter, Payton.
Tim Baker – Organist / Assistant Director of Music
Timothy L. Baker is a graduate of the University of Louisville School of Music and has been with the HBPres Music Ministry for over 20 years. He currently accompanies all choirs and directs the Adult Handbell Choir.Tim performs frequently with various vocal and instrumental ensembles in Louisville and the surrounding region. In addition to assisting several Catholic parishes, he works with local community theater companies as musical director and accompanist.
Beth Brandenburg – Director of Children’s Choirs
Beth Brandenburg has been Director of Children’s Choirs at HBPres since August, 1997. She is also the music teacher at Bowen Elementary in Louisville. Beth lives in Shelbyville with her husband Larry. They have two sons, Nathan and Matthew. They have an organic farm called Harmony Fields Farm.
Cheryl Granger – Church Administrator
Cheryl Granger moved from the Dayton, Ohio area to Louisville in 2008 when her husband Dan was hired by a local company. Cheryl has a Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology but has been working in the Office/Accounting field since 2001. She was hired as the Administrator Assistant in 2011 and became the church administrator in 2015. She is working towards getting her Certified Church Administrator certification through The Church Network. Cheryl and her husband Dan enjoy photography, being outdoors as much as possible and have a passion for hiking in the Great Smoky Mountains.
